Completely off-topic, so I won't be offended if this doesn't make it past the moderators :o)


A few people on my f-list are panicking today after reading this article about LJ, and they are using software like this and this to back up their posts.

Some of my fics exist only on LJ, so I'll be backing them up soon.

If any of you are in a similar position, I thought you might be interested, too.

This will be a terrible shame if it is truely coming to an end on here. But I was under the impression that they just upgraded their systems and moved to new premises, so it may be a downscaling following increased automation. It will be interesting to see if anyone from LJ comments.

We will just have to keep our fingers crossed! Life without the haven? What fresh madness is this?

I wouldn't mind if BSH moved to another site, personally. LJ's policy on fandom stinks. They've come down on some fanfic writers/fan artists hard and randomly in the past in horrid and ill-thought out attempts to kowtow to their advertisers and far right groups.

But if BSH closed it would be foul, of course. Most of the fic here isn't backed up anywhere else. Not to mention all the comments! That's where the real life is.

Previous attempts to move fandom off LJ have all been big fails so far. I'm on IJ myself but always end up coming back here for BSH.

There's already a mirror BSH on IJ, by the way. You can post there whenever you want if you want to back up. IJ is free to join and you get about a billion userpics.
