Author’s Notes: All my love and gratitude to ideserveyou and concupiscence66 for being my betas and also just generally being fabulous people. As before, I should mention that this fic is loosely inspired by Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road' and the title is taken from the song 'These Days' by Ane Brun. This chapter contains a very loose attitude towards science, but if it's good enough for McCarthy then it's good enough for me!
