You're right though, real sex in complete detail isn't necessarily all that interesting, so I guess the trick is to make it feel like the real thing while fast-forwarding the reader through the tedious parts.
And this fandom is worth keeping alive... I am a big believer in putting something back if you get something out. (That came out sounding a bit wrong, but you know what I mean!)
