On Radio One today, Jo Whiley's Live Lounge, Noel and Julian sung some of their songs live in the studio (with Dave Brown/Bollo on bongos). There should be photos and Listen Again up on the site soon.
My top moment: When they did their Love Games, and Howard sang to Old Gregg, "Suck me!"
Before that, they did Married on The Morn. They explained the song first. Noel: "It means a lot to us… we’d made love; the chemistry had gone wrong.”
I don’t think they’re ever going to stop the slash, are they?
Jo asked them about how they wrote. Julian: “We are physically in the room together.” Noel: “I’m in a little papoose on Julian’s back. He runs about with a typewriter strapped to his chest. Usually he’s dressed as Spartacus.”
About their celebrity crushes. Noel: ”I’m currently in love with Paul Weller. He keeps ringing me up, saying - alright boy, how’re you doing? We’re slightly in love. I’m his little Mod Child.” Bollo told how Phil Collins had caught his eye. Nice mental image there.
At one point Julian said, "We like sad monsters. Monsters that have fallen out of love."
As ever, bloody wonderful.
And here’s a Youtube video from their Colin Murray Radio 1 show before:

Date: 2007-11-15 05:36 pm (UTC)I hesitated to read this because I didn't really want to know anything slashy about Phil Collins. That's just wrong. Wrongwrongwrong.

Date: 2007-11-15 08:39 pm (UTC)And I think the whole Phil Collins thing was about the Cadbury's advert with the gorilla playing the drums to one of his songs. Because Bollo was on drums... Maybe... dunno.
And after today's numerous interviews I think we can safely conclude there is definately RPS happening.

Date: 2007-11-16 09:34 am (UTC)Careful. Don't forget that they delight in head-messing.
They mess with our minds, we mess with theirs. And vice-versa.
That's how it works at BSH. :)

Date: 2007-11-15 08:45 pm (UTC)I disagree. They're comedians! We can't tell shit from this! No matter if they step up the camera and say, "WE ARE BIG GAY BUM PALS AND PUT TOOTHPASTE ON EACH OTHER'S BALLS TO MAKE THEM MINTY FRESH FOR OUR MUTUAL LICKIN' PLEASURE!," I would take it all with a pinch of salt. Or a pinch of toothpaste. Whichever.

Date: 2007-11-16 11:27 am (UTC)But then I didn't join for ages, even though I thought it was a great comm, because of the comments that went, "Noel and Julian are so really doing it, all the time, before every interview and gig, and then after as well, and they're so a secret ghey couple and one day it will ALL COME OUT," which I find a bit offensive to their real partners. Especially now that Julia's just had the twins and all. Not to mention weird, that they would think being a gay couple was so bad they'd have to hide it for over a decade.

Date: 2007-11-16 12:08 pm (UTC)Especially on the 'why would they hide a gay relationship for a decade?' point.
We're all just fictionally teasing and playing with the Boosh, and they know that and that's why there's all this current winking back and forth between slashers and Noel.
I like to think that the Boosh know that none of us actually believe they are a gay couple, but they are quite happy to play on the teeny-tiny possibility that resides in the mind of all RPS slashers that they just might be... The 'not knowing' and the exploring or playing around with possibilities fuels the imagination, right?
To be honest, I'm beginning to wish they would rein the ghey teasing in a bit...it's messing with my slashy mojo.

Date: 2007-11-16 12:37 pm (UTC)Ha ha yes! That's what the BSH filthy porn is for! Although.... I'm not really complaining.

Date: 2007-11-16 02:33 pm (UTC)When I was married to a man who had a lifelong creative collaborative partner (it outlasted our marriage!), his own teenage daughter (who was obviously a bit of a fantasist) told me that she thought they were lovers. I wasn't offended, because a) I didn't think there was any way it was true, and b) because of the way I happen to see people, if it *had* been true I would have just thought it was interesting. So I asked him! He said nope. And that's the end of that story!

Date: 2007-11-16 02:16 pm (UTC)I do think there are other options besides being "a big ghey couple and hiding it" though. Like, people having complicated relationships and not wanting to go around and explain them to the press all the time. But that's just the way I look at people. Anything we see in the hints they (especially Noel) like to drop probably just reflects whatever we project! (And that's my Big Profound Thought for the day.)

Date: 2007-11-16 05:11 pm (UTC)Oh, I agree. Yes.
one of the many reasons we members-locked morrissey_slash is that one of the slashees has kids of the internetting age.
I usually think that locking fic is a pity. Communities become closed and weird(er).
But still, Noel's described Dee as 'the most neurotic person I know', and although she's said to find the slash funny now, what if someone wrote fic dissing her as a RL person and she suddenly didn't like it any more? And when you're pregnant or newly sprogged, your hormones are all over the place. You could easily start to believe wierd stuff that some fan made up is really true. So what the guys have seen it and think it's funny - they also have grannies, uncles, nephews and nieces... That's why I don't write real person fic (publically, at least).
On the other hand, Noel and Julian kind of slash themselves. In the Boosh, the line between RPS and character fic is more than a bit blurred.

Date: 2007-11-17 01:48 am (UTC)Speaking of people slashing themselves, though, the question we *really* want to know the answer to is: are Sue and Dee doing it? Or Dueing it?

Date: 2007-11-24 07:40 pm (UTC)You see, I just couldn't. Even when I used to do photography, I had real trouble taking pictures of other people without their consent or knowledge, and that's plain weird. Everyone takes pictures of people! It's perfectly normal!
now that I've written some FPS for The Boosh, I'm getting squicky about RPS
Perhaps because you're getting into their mindsets? And sympathising? Feeling protective?

Date: 2007-11-24 08:26 pm (UTC)I don't know about Morrissey, but in many ways Julian Barratt's a really shy person. Even more so recently. He's extremely careful to preserve his private life, and genuinely horrified by the thought of random exposure. If we were really his friends, surely we'd respect that? Noel's mates may post pictures of him 'partying' all over the net, but not Julian's.
No, we're not their friends. Friends wouldn't write porn about them and post it publically.

Date: 2007-11-24 09:48 pm (UTC)It's annoying though, because it cramps my slash style! I still want to read the RPS - I'll read anything if it's good, and I may as well not deny my celebrity fantasies. But now I feel like a bit of a dirty perv about it. But oh well - I suppose that's how porn is supposed to make you feel, whatever your particular fancy is!

Date: 2007-11-25 12:50 am (UTC)"I think it’s brilliant. It’s really, really funny. And I like that sort of thing cause it means that there’s people who have imagination who are inspired by your personality and the things that you’ve done, so it’s a good thing," he says. "There’s absolutely nothing wrong with fictionalizing a genuine character as long as you make it clear that you are fictionalizing, which I think all that slash stuff does. I think it gets dangerous when people start believing that those things are actually true, and I think for the obvious majority of people that that’s not going to be the case. There are a few people who get crazy obsessed and start imagining they’re having relationships with people that they don’t have relationships with. That sort of thing’s a little bit frightening, but I think that’s very rare. "It’s what we do in songs as well," he says. "I mean, we take characters who are around us and write stories, write songs about events that have happened in their lives. Of course, when you tell any story, you make it dramatic, you use the tools of drama to make an exciting story. All they’re doing is an extreme example of what we do."
If I was writing RPS about Alex, I think I'd feel absolutely safe in posting it online, as long as it had the proper disclaimers. He obviously sees nothing wrong with it. The Boosh haven't done that (yet).

:) Only if it's the really good stuff.

Date: 2007-11-25 04:57 am (UTC)I didn't read the "Woman" interview where they discussed it, but I'm assuming that for Julian, being "disturbed" by something isn't a wholly negative thing. I mean, I'd be disturbed if I found out that strangers on the internet were writing pornography about me and my best friend (and/or lover!), but I'd also probably be fascinated by it - what it says about human nature, celebrity, sexuality, etc.
Personally as a reader and writer of fanfic though I'm not sure how much I care whether or not the fic subjects approve of it. I have a tendency to feel that in a strange way "it's not about them" - it's clearly a natural and sane (if strange) extension of the fan reaction. You can't control people's fantasies, and slash has been going on a long time now without anyone confusing fantasy and reality. The only serious ethical question for RPS, I think, concerns the potential reactions of girlfriends, wives, and especially children (which is why I'm all about members-locked comms... although only if I'm a maintainer - bigger responsibility etc.).
(Believe me I've thought about all this stuff and argued it out before... that's originally why I started a fanfic journal, so I could think and write about stuff like this, but now it's turned pretty random!)
Hey, what's up with me being added as a maintainer of the IJ Mighty Boosh comm? (Are you one of the maintainers?) I don't remember applying for that position... not that I mind!

Date: 2007-11-16 09:41 am (UTC)That's exactly what I enjoy about their 'evil' characters. You end up feeling sorry for them because you realise they probably just f*cked up at some point in their life and weren't always like that. Awww.
Haven't listened to this interview properly yet (damn being at work when all the fun stuff is happening) but, when JW asked them about celebrity crushes, didn't Julian struggle to answer and then say "Noel?"
I realise he was deflecting the question to Noel because he didn't want to answer/had no reply, but IN MY MIND he replied "NOEL". Yes he did.
