This will probably not even get posted but this has been driving me mad for SO LONG I JUST HAVE TO--
Loose (loos): adjective. Free or released from fastening or attachment: a loose end.
Lose (looz): verb. To come to be without (something in one's possession or care), through accident, theft, etc., so that there is little or no prospect of recovery: I'm sure I've merely misplaced my hat, not lost it.
It's a one letter difference that TOTALLY changes the context of things and really, really throws me, and others, when reading. I just want to educate you guys. : (

"I got more and more like Fat Fug Elvis as this tour went on." Said Noel.
Please don't. :( Betas are lovely nice kind people who don't bite, even if they are grammar-slags. They LIKE spending hours of their time fixing commas. Give them a thrill and email somebody off the list, pleeeaaase. ♥

I could go on. *is grammar-slag and proud*

Date: 2009-01-20 12:44 pm (UTC)I wish it was only ficcers who got it wrong, and not professionals writing serious letters. Frankly it annoys me less with ficcers, although it irks me anyway.

Date: 2009-01-20 04:06 pm (UTC)Also, even though it's all about American English, I would recommend Strunk and White's The Elements of Style to anyone, whether you need a reference guide or you're just a grammar nerd. It has some great sections on commonly misspelled and misused words and it's genuinely fun to read. Plus it was co-written by the guy who wrote Charlotte's Web. It's all online, but there's also a cute little illustrated hardcover version. STRUNK AND WHITE ARE NOT PAYING ME, I SWEAR.
